Piedmont Avenue Streetscape

After completing two historic studies for Piedmont Avenue in Berkeley, PGA was asked to solve 150-year-old problems along a portion of the avenue with a steep cross slope in front of California Memorial Stadium. We re-graded the sidewalk, which is now level, and built an elegant tiered level change that includes campus lighting on a wide granite curb.

PGA also solved drainage issues on the street, and restored an anthracite rubble wall that dated to the 1880s. The avenue’s new appearance is that of a graceful promenade sized for the large numbers of people spilling out of the stadium after football games.
